JFCS Statement Regarding the Verdict in the Murder of Ahmaud Arbery

JFCS stands in solidarity with the family of Ahmaud Arbery and their Georgia community as the jury in the trial of Ahmaud’s killers returned a guilty verdict.  

While this verdict holds Ahmaud’s killers accountable, nothing will erase the pain his family and loved ones have endured. We bear witness to their pain and to the pain of all families of victims of racial violence and injustice.

This verdict is one step forward, but we recognize that the work is far from over. JFCS commits to seeking justice and fighting against racism and inequity. The Torah teaches that “You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.”

As we spend time with our families this holiday season, we invite all in Greater Louisville and beyond to think of Ahmaud Arbery and his loved ones. We also continue to think of Breonna Taylor, her family and those in our community who continue to seek justice.
