Whether you are seeking help for an immediate problem, or just want to find greater self-understanding or fulfillment, our team of experienced counselors can help. Learn more about our services here or contact us at services@jfcslouisville.org to speak with one of our staff members.
We offer Counseling Services and believe in the importance of addressing mental health concerns, especially during a global pandemic, which is why we also offer Virtual Training on Mental Health First Aid. Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) training prepares participants to assist those experiencing a mental health crisis and will cover risk factors, warning signs, evidence-supported treatment and self-help strategies. Evidence shows that the need for this kind of training has increased through the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the American Hospital Association, “Today, experts are concerned that the COVID-19 pandemic is exacerbating the mental health of both those with pre-COVID-19 conditions, and those in whom the pandemic has triggered a new behavioral health disorder.” At JFCS, we are able to provide MHFA course training that, at its conclusion, certifies participants as Mental Health First Aiders. If you are interested in participating in our next MHFA course, use the link above to register or contact us at mhfa@jfcslouisville.org for more information.
THANK YOU to all of our supporters in the 2020 Virtual Feeding Families Food Drive! Because of you, more than 15,000 pounds of food and essential items will be distributed through the JFCS Sonny & Janet Meyer Food Pantry to individuals and families in the Greater Louisville community!
Since the beginning of the global pandemic, we have seen a marked increase in need surrounding food security. Between March 2020 and August 2020, the number of households and individuals served through the food pantry has doubled and we have distributed more than 5x the amount of food to those in need. In September 2020 alone, we distributed more than 7,600 pounds of food to individuals and families. JFCS is able to answer this need with assistance from our donors and supporters, like you. THANK YOU for helping JFCS ensure all in Greater Louisville live with dignity and purpose!
In an abundance of caution due to the global pandemic, we hosted our annual food drive virtually this year. It is our sincere hope that, soon, we will be able to accept non-expired food and personal care items from our loyal supporters who work to keep our pantry full. For now, you can continue to give in support of the Sonny & Janet Meyer Food Pantry with a secure online donation, here.

The difficulties and isolating effects of living during an ongoing public health emergency are impacting all of us, especially those who are trying to maintain their sobriety. Sarah* joined a JFCS online support group after a pandemic-related job loss. In her new circumstances, Sarah was concerned about her ability to stay sober because of her increased stress, anxiety and isolation.
“She had been in recovery for almost a year and wanted to stay sober for her family,” said Jessica Holloway, JFCS Family Services Administrative Manager. Jessica is often the first person community members speak to as she registers them for services or connects them with outside resources.
Support groups, held via video conferencing and led by a JFCS counselor, provide mental health guidance and offer a pipeline to additional services, inside or outside JFCS, if needed. Through JFCS Counseling Services, community members can tackle anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues that could become obstacles to sustaining sobriety or reducing harm.
“We try to be people’s last phone call,” Jessica explained. “Sometimes people search all day, or for days, to find resources. We want to be the last call as often as we can, and when we can’t, we want to point them to the resources they need.”
When it comes to addiction services, JFCS can connect community members to specialized assistance.
“I was able to share resources with Sarah to support her in continuing her sobriety journey,” Jessica said. “I also provided her guidance on how to use technology to connect with other online support groups specifically focused on addiction.”
JFCS’s support and networking groups — from mental health to career services — are all available online so clients can safely connect with essential services and community through the duration of the pandemic. There are groups for mindful meditation, parenting through the pandemic, grandparents raising grandchildren, as well as career-focused groups.
Whatever pandemic experience a person is having, JFCS is here for support and connection.
