Volunteer Spotlight: Evelyn Figa

Evelyn Figa sharing her experience as a Shabbos Friends volunteer.

The Doris L. & Theodore B. Meyers JFCS Shabbos Friends program provides a monthly Shabbat celebration with Jewish seniors living in local assisted-living facilities and nursing homes. Volunteers visit and spend time with the Jewish residents, share holiday memories, and saying the traditional Sabbath prayers. This week as part of Volunteer Appreciation Month we are highlighting one of our star volunteers, Evelyn Figa, who has been with the program for over five years!

“Evelyn Figa takes the beauty of Shabbat to both Belmont Village and The Forum where she consistently goes above and beyond Shabbos Friends duties. Evelyn helps facilitate interfaith celebrations for the major Jewish holidays, made sure that matzo ball soup is offered on Shabbat and takes a personal interest in residents,” volunteer coordinator Kim Toebbe beamed. We are lucky to have volunteers like Evelyn who help Shabbos Friends run smoothly.

Shabbos Friends is a rewarding opportunity for both volunteers and residents. The program is always looking for volunteers! If you would like more information, please contact Kim Toebbe at JFCS at 452-6341, ext. 103.
