Erin Heakin has been working as a Career Counselor at JFCS for almost four years. When asked what the word “career” means to Erin, she replied, “I once read a quote from Sheryl Sandberg that said, ‘your career is not a ladder but instead a jungle gym.’ Sometimes you need to go horizontally or take a step down to get where you want to be.” Erin specializes in youth and young adult career counseling and often can be found teaching classes at Youth Build as part of our Jobs and Enterprise Center program.
To Erin, the “family” is the people who mean most to you. Erin and her husband have an 8-month-old daughter named Franny and two elderly Shih Tzus.
In her free time, Erin enjoys reading with her book club, participating in local storytelling events, watching anything that is considered “prestige television,” and watching her daughter discover the wonders of the world. Erin describes herself as passionate, caring, and curious.
Around JFCS, she is known for her pimento cheese, which she brings to most potlucks. Here’s her secret: she uses roasted garlic, and she never uses pre-shredded cheese!
