Volunteer will visit an assigned nursing home or assisted living facility on an assigned day of each month in order to visit Jewish residents living there. Volunteer will share Shabbat with the residents, either in a group setting or by individual one-on-one room visits on an assigned Friday afternoon prior to dinner time at that facility. Volunteers will say the Hebrew and English blessings with the resident, using supplies provided by JFCS. Volunteer will come to JFCS on assigned visitation day to pick up fresh challahs and grape juice for his/her list of residents. Volunteer can keep electric candlesticks in his/her own possession until he/she no longer volunteers with this program. At that time, the candle sticks will be returned to JFCS. Volunteer must be able to walk throughout facility carrying 2 bags of supplies.
Volunteer must have a clean criminal record check. Volunteer must have his/her transportation. Volunteer will sign a confidentiality contract. Volunteer must be able to say 3 blessings in Hebrew and will need to be able to walk through out a facility carrying supplies.
Volunteer must attend a Volunteer Orientation and attend a special training designed just for Shabbos Friends participants.
