Volunteer will be asked to work in the JFCS Food Pantry, helping to shelve new food items, and helping to keep existing items current and well organized. Volunteer might be asked to sort and organize foods donated to JFCS from Dare to Care such as a 50 pound bag of carrots sorting them into smaller bags.
Volunteer might be asked to excuse himself/herself if a staff member takes a client into the Pantry. Volunteer will keep freezer stocked from other freezers in Staff Kitchen. Volunteer is responsible to read and record all thermometers for all freezers, the Food Pantry refrigerator and the Pantry itself.
Volunteer is asked to keep plastic bag holders full of bags for client use. Volunteer will be expected to put all expired foods in the Staff Kitchen and to remove all of the empty boxes and bags from hallway.
Volunteer will put all cardboard and recyclable items in the appropriate and designated spots. Volunteer might be asked to pick up donated foods at other locations such as local temples or synagogues. Volunteer might be asked to delivery extra foods to the Franciscan House on South Preston in his/her own vehicle. Volunteer might be asked to shop for the Food Pantry.
Volunteer will be considered a tremendous asset when volunteers are needed to sort and organized food donations from the High Holiday food drives. The Food Pantry Manager will be a great help organizing special food distributions such as Passover and Thanksgiving.
Volunteer must be a member of the JFCS Food Pantry Committee and will be asked to attend those meetings. Volunteer will be asked to participate in all Food Pantry events such as the annual Pancake Breakfast at Applebee’s. Volunteer must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
Volunteer must attend a Volunteer Orientation, have a clean criminal record check and must sign a confidentiality contract.
Volunteer will give appropriate receipt(s) to the staff member in charge of the Food Pantry. The receipt will get attached to the proper reimbursement form and a check will be sent to the Volunteer from the Food Pantry Fund as soon as possible.
