According to state department statistics in adoptions, the top four countries where Americans are adopting are China, Ethiopia, Russia, and South Korea. Last year, over 12,000 children were adopted from around the world! JFCS conducts home studies for many of these international adoptions.
Our adoption services provide practical and emotional support for these expanding families. As a result of our involvement in adoptions, we are holding a two-part session for prospective adoptive parents, aptly named Parents in Process. (Mondays, September 20 and September 27 from 7-9 p.m. at the Louis & Lee Roth Family Center). Sessions will cover topics including attachment and bonding, loss and grieving, and special needs of adopted children. There is a $10 materials fee for families in their homestudy process at JFCS and a $50 per session for other families. You do have to register for the sessions, so make sure to call ahead of time!
In other news, don’t miss out on our last Farmers Market of the season, this Sunday, 12:30-4. Last chance for all those fresh farm goodies you’ve been enjoying all summer, so come stock up this weekend!
