Hot Dogs and Bingo- A Hit for the Whole Community

By Robin Ungar

On Sunday, March 4, 2018, JFCS and Chabad of KY collaborated on a fundraiser called Hot Dog Bingo for the Pantry. The event was fun and successful by all counts drawing over 30 volunteers and a total of 83 people; a good time was had by all. The fundraiser was so successful that more than $1,000 was raised for the Sonny & Janet Meyer Family Food Pantry Fund. Frankie Bloom and Bonnie Bloom (no relation) gave out name tags, bingo cards and collected money. Richard Davidoff won two (one he didn’t realize he won) rounds of bingo and Toby Horvitz cleaned up winning many prizes too.

With so many extra prizes donated to give out at the event, everyone was a winner in at least one rounds. Sven Ekman there with his daughter Robin Naiser used Hershey Kisses as his bingo pieces. Thanks to the many wonderful raffles prize donated we had many happy winners. Rabbi Chaim Litvin with Chabad of KY oversaw, cooked and served the hot dogs and buns. Allen Bloom (Bonnie’s hubby) provided the chafing dishes and heat sources to keep the food fresh and was one of many volunteers serving food. Sara Yamin and Debbie Friedman made yummy, homemade sweets.

The Sonny & Janet Meyer Family Food Pantry Fund is an excellent asset for JFCS clients because it ensures that those in need have food and staples not covered by SNAP benefits (previously called food stamps).
