Well, it seems that the scariest thing this Halloween was the weather, so don’t be surprised by ghouls and goblins — or princesses and pirates — knocking at your door tonight or tomorrow (depending on where you live).
Regardless of the extended Halloween weekend … it is November now, and we have plenty of wonderful programs lined up for you this month!
November is National Caregiver month. We’ll have more about that on our blog, Facebook and Twitter as the month progresses. To help celebrate those unsung heroes, JFCS is offering a Caregiver Tea program all month long. If you host a tea and invite friends, they may qualify for free respite service. Additional guidelines apply, so contact Mauri Malka at 452-6341, ext. 250, for those details.
On November 4 and 5, we have a two-part workshop centered on LinkedIn. We’ve touched on the importance of LinkedIn in a few of our recent posts here, but the workshop will go into much more detail. Best of all, we plan to start you off in style — if you attend our workshop, you will walk away with a professional photo for your profile. Contact Janet Poole to register, 452-6341, ext. 222.
On November 11, we’ll start our next cycle of Employment Search Jumpstart. Its a great resource for job seekers, and sessions meet on Monday evenings. Visit our Classes & Workshops page for all the details, or contact Janet Poole to register, 452-6341, ext. 222.
If you know a new American who deserves recognition, consider making a nomination for our MOSAIC Awards. These awards symbolize Multicultural Opportunities for Success and Achievement In our Community. We honor new or first-generation immigrants and refugees who make a significant contributions in their professions and in our community. Nominations are due by November 15, so visit our MOSAIC page or contact Beverly Bromley at 452-6341, ext. 223, to submit your nominations.
We have one more ACT Preparation Workshop before the December 14 testing date. It starts on November 18 and meets for eight sessions, ending on December 10. You can find more information on our Classes & Workshops page, and you can register for this with Janet Poole at 452-6341, ext. 222.
Are you excited about Thanksgivukkah yet? While you’re planning your holiday celebration, we hope you’ll remember those who are less fortunate. Our Chanukah Helpers Family Mitzvah is scheduled for Sunday, November 24. We would love for your family to come and help us prepare the gifts received through the Chanukah Helpers program. For details, contact Kim Toebbe at 452-6341, ext. 103.
And, of course, a new month means new needs in the JFCS Food Pantry. In November, we need small jars of applesauce, latke mix, small individual bottles of grape juice, gallon baggies with twist ties, toilet paper, laundry soap, glass cleaner, and spray cleaner. Please be sure that donated items are in their original packaging and have not passed their expiration dates.
We hope that your holiday preparations go smoothly, so that you’ll still have time to join in for one, two, or all of these programs. Even if you can’t host a Caregiver Tea, don’t forget to express your appreciation to the caregivers you know — we can promise that they’ll appreciate some extra encouragement.
