Woo-hoo! Spring has totally sprung, with warmer temps and blossoming trees. Despite the allergies it can kick up, it surely is one of the prettiest times to be in Louisville. It’s also one of the busiest times of the year here at JFCS…yesterday’s Caregiver Survival event was a great success, but we’re nowhere near done yet! Check it out:
-First of all, the next round of ACT Prep Classes are coming up fast, scheduled for May 6-June 4. These are held Mondays and Tuesdays, for eight sessions at 7-9 PM. For more information and to register, contact Janet Poole at (502) 452-6341 ext. 222.
– Help a family in need – our Food Pantry suggestions for April are: canned mandarin oranges, peaches, pears, cookies, crackers, baked beans, ketchup, mayonnaise, shampoo and conditioner. All donated food must be in its original packaging, and we can’t use expired items. Plus, if you donate before the end of April, your donation is met by the Feinstein Foundation (read more at the link)! For more information, please contact Kim Toebbe (502) 452-6341 ext. 103.
–Job Seekers Resource Group is coming back for another round, beginning May 6. You’ll learn basic job search skills from an experienced career advisor, and get in top shape for interviews. There is a $10 one-time materials fee. For more information contact Andrea Goins at (502) 452-6341 ext. 246.
-But wait, job seekers, there’s more: a new Employer Spotlight is scheduled for April 18, with special guests KentuckianaWorks. You’ll meet their HR rep, who’ll discuss their hiring process and what it’s like to work at KW. It’s free to attend, just make sure to RSVP by contacting Andrea Goins at 452-6341 ext. 246.
– Finally, through a generous grant from Northwestern Mutual, JFCS will be able to provide an individualized college and career advisement program to a deserving high school student who will be a Junior in the school year 2013-2014 as well as a first generation college bound student. For more information, contact Ellen Shapira, MA, NCC, NCCCC at [email protected] or 452-6341, ext. 225.
There you have it, our week’s roundup. Get out and enjoy that sunshine, and we’ll see you back again next week!
