Age is a number, old is a state of mind. It is not the number of years we live, but the way we live those years that ultimately defines our life. My grandmother and mother have been my role models for successful aging without growing old. What has been their secret? While good genes go a long way, attitude is the single most important factor in determining the effect aging will have on our lives.
As we grow older, at some point, our bodies begin to desert us. Our minds can be just as cruel. In my work with seniors, I see how for some, this triggers a retreat from the social and physical activities which had previously brought joy, satisfaction and purpose. To age successfully, we must regroup and redefine, not retreat.
JFCS will hold a Healthy Living Expo on November 18 at the Roth Family Center. This is the perfect opportunity to learn more about how to prepare yourselves and plan for the changes that come with aging. So, what’s YOUR secret for living well? Share with us in the comments!
