For Many A New Year Means A New Career!

Do you know your top 5 strengths? Understanding who you are and how your strengths align with setting your goals is the key to a successful career move.

JFCS Career & Workforce Development kicked off 2019 with our New Year, New Career Development Series and exclusive Appetizers & Careers Networking Event. This sold-out series, sponsored by Northwestern Mutual, was held over 3 evenings and was centered on knowing your Top 5 Strengths as identified by the widely recognized StrengthsFinder assessment.

The first evening, our Director of Career & Workforce Development, Dr. Orville Blackman, facilitated discussion around understanding your strengths and how those strengths connect to a career path. The second evening focused on developing your personal brand around your “Top 5” and practiced practical ways to incorporate your “strength statements” into a resume, LinkedIn profile, and through verbal networking.

The final evening of the series was Appetizers & Careers, an exclusive networking event with business representatives. The event opened up with an uplifting speech from our sponsor, Christopher Brice, Director of Development for Northwestern Mutual, connecting the importance of utilizing your strengths in conjunction with a plan for the future. Participants had the opportunity to network with 15 business representatives, which led to vibrant discussions and matching to potential employment opportunities.

What did our participants have to say about New Year, New Career?

  • “Great team of professionals conducting this program! I will recommend to anybody I encounter that could potentially benefit from your services!”
  • “Very professional and well planned and presented. Fantastic material!”

Due to the event’s success and participant demand, JFCS scheduled an encore presentation of the New Year, New Career series on March 11-13 from 6-8pm. If you would like to attend and learn more about your Top 5 strengths and how to brand yourself, please register on Eventbrite or call 502-322-1934.
