Beers for Careers Recap II

Written by Jamie Goodpaster, Job Development and Placement Specialist

Together with YPAL, JFCS hosted the Beers for Careers networking event, December 2 (modeled after a similar JVS Boston event). The event was held in a private room at Browning’s Brewery at Slugger Field, as shown above. The $10 cover charge included three 7 oz. beer pours of Browning’s microbrews and appetizers.

The night began with a brief presentation from Chris Poynter, Communications Director of the Greg Fischer for Mayor Campaign. Chris stressed the need for fresh talent on the Fischer Transition Team and on Community Committees.

Daniel Johnsen, Client Services Manager for The Oliver Group delivered a 10 minute presentation on the power of LinkedIn and how to create an effective profile. Various stations were available to provide information for the attendees including, free LinkedIn Headshots, Recruiters Table, JFCS and YPAL information tables.

To encourage networking, individuals with a minimum of six signatures on the back of their business cards were eligible to enter for a door prize valued at over $150 dollars (included 1 hour career consultation from JFCS, 1 year free YPAL membership, and $25 Browning’s Gift Certificate among other things).

Approximately 35 individuals attended the event.
