AJSS Lends a Hand to Louisville – and JFCS!

Today’s blog written by Volunteer Coordinator, Kim Toebbe

JFCS volunteers from The American Jewish Society for Service converged on Louisville, KY this summer to provide volunteer service all over town.  The energetic and enthusiastic volunteers helped out at JFCS in the food pantry and delivered surplus matzo, cheese soup and Fresh Market bread to Franciscan Kitchen which serves 500 hungry people per day.  The kitchen was short-handed so the volunteers served, cleaned, schlepped and smiled and had a mutually beneficial experience with Franciscan Kitchen representing JFCS very well.

Exuberant volunteers from JFCS/AJSS also helped with bingo at the Episcopal Church Home bringing smiles to residents faces, chatting, transporting in wheelchairs, handing out bingo supplies and more.  The polite and thoughtful group had a lot of fun and enjoyed interacting with grateful seniors.

JFCS/AJSS volunteers delivered food to the JFCS food pantry from JCC Summer campers who have donated hundreds of pounds of food to the pantry this summer!  The volunteers helped out at Youthbuild, Habitat for Humanity and in Henryville with tornado relief among other projects.

It has been such a  pleasure and a help to have these fine young people from all over the country helping JFCS this summer and it is hoped we see many of them again next year!
