A Grand Opening for a Microentrepreneur!

On August 28, 2010, two of JFCS’s recent business clients, Hazim Sadkhan and Chef Duraid Abdulridha, will celebrate the Grand Opening of their new Middle Eastern restaurant in St. Matthews, the Dejlah Bistro. Featuring authentic cuisine from Mesopotamia and the Levant, the Dejlah Bistro combines unique dishes of Lamb Kuzee, Chicken Top-Kapi, Samboosa, Baba Ghanoush, and others, with traditional Middle Eastern favorites like Falafel, Fasanjoon, and Baklava. Before coming to Kentucky, Hazim and Duraid operated a well-known and commercially successful restaurant in Baghdad, which they were forced to close down after violence made operating in the city unsafe. Afterward, both Hazim and Duraid assisted U.S. and Coalition Forces in their efforts to build a stable Iraqi government. By separate routes, and unbeknownst to each other, Hazim and Duraid ended up settling in Louisville in 2009. The result of their labors since arriving in Kentucky is the Dejlah Bistro, located at 4123 Oechsli Avenue, off Shelbyville Road in St. Matthews.
